Bathing Your Hamster

Categories: Uncategorized | April 23rd, 2008 | by ADMIN | no comments

If you bath your hamster it will remove all of therebodys natural oils. so bathing your hamster is not normally recommended for hamsters even if your hamster has white fur .Its still not recommended unless they have dirt on that you cant removing by brushing or gently easing it out.

If your at the point were you must wash your hamster its best to wash your hamster in a bowl of look warm water , fill it with about 5cm of water , Always remembering to check the temparature of the water using your elbow or hand first .

If you decide to use soap to wash your hamster be sure not to lose grip and make sure it is always throughly rinsed out .I would recommend you wash your hamster in a room with a good temparture. You may also dry your hamsters hair with a low voltage hair dryer but always keep a good distance from your hammy to prevent burns etc. Keeping your hand between your hair dryer and hamster at all times to keep an eye on the temperature and air flow.this will help to prevent injurie or burns to your hammy skin .

Always remember hamsters are a very sensitive animal , Never put your hamster back into its cage with wet fur as there bedding and sawdust will stick to them which is very uncomfortable and will itch your hamsters skin . You may put your hamster in there exercise ball to dry there body off .

Items you may require :

  • A small bowl
  • Small amount of water
  • Soap
  • Exercise ball
  • Towel
  • Hair dryer
  • Apron ( Keep yourself dry as hamsters like to splash lots )

An average life span for a hamster is 18 to 36 months although there are records to show that some hamsters have lived a lot longer the most i know of is 7 years at present .your hamsters body temp should be on average 37-38 degrees celsius .
