Syrian or Golden hamsters

1839 geogre waterhouse of the london zoologicial soceity presented the syrian hamster as a new type of rodent species. hamsters were known to be kept in the uk between 1880 and 1910 until they thought they were extinct . in 1930 dr israel aharoni capatured a mother hamster and her litter in aleppo in syria .these hamsters were then bread from there off spring and were imported back to the uk in the late 1940’s. syrian hamsters are now the new popular family pet in homes across the world.there are not many syrian hamster left in the wild at all.the first known syrian kept as a pet was golden and in light and dark shades .once people found out about these wonderful animals they started to breed them now many varities are avalilble world wide. around the uk there are hamsters clubs were you can show of your syrians best assets.eg fur colour or special markings .
